Most Illogical: ‘Star Trek’ Spoof Filmed In A Nuclear Power Plant Now Shut Down For Radiation Leaks

Written by Nathan Birch / 05.24.13

Stupidly going where no Star Trek parody has gone before.

Remember that terrible Star Trek spoof done by accountants we showed you a while back? Well, we’ve got another awful Trek “training video” put together by frumpy people for you! This one was made by the staff of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station and was actually filmed within the plant. Wait…what?

Oh, it gets worse. Apparently staff at San Onofre were too busy with Star Trek parodies to keep their plant from deteriorating into a clown show straight out of an episode of The Simpsons. In 2012 the plant was shut down for radiation leaks, employees have fallen into the coolant tanks and investigators found pipes “fixed” with tape, plastic sheets and broomsticks. Yeah.

Hit the jump for a Local Action News! report on the whole thing, with lots of footage from the spoof…

Written by Dan Seitz / 05.24.13

Lono was one of the most memorable, and terrifying, characters in 100 Bullets. But his fate at the end of the series was an open question. Now the entire 100 Bullets team is coming back to answer the question with Brother Lono. Azzarello sat down with us to discuss where Lono is as a character, and why this isn’t a sequel to 100 Bullets, but its own story. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s time once again for our Friday comics cosplay feature, casting the spotlight on the best comics related costumery from the cosplay community.  As always, we’re focusing on those cosplayers who we think deserve special recognition for their hard work creating the best costumes, whatever their budget, and also the work of those  photographers who capture them for posterity.

This week we’re featuring some awesome cosplay of Catwoman, Invincible, Black Widow, Mr. Freeze, Scarlet Witch, Tank Girl, Red Hood, Nightwing, Batgirl, Red Robin, Power Man, Raven, Deadpool and more!

Gamma Squad is committed to giving a voice to the cosplay community that thrives in communities like our friends at TheSuperheroCostumingForum.com. Each week we aim to spotlight our favorite costumes and, in addition, we also host a regular cosplay contest, with the results forming a special theme week. We invite all cosplayers, costumers and photographers to submit pictures of their work that relates to the theme (or any cosplay in general!) to our Flickr group to be considered. We’ll then pick our top choices and post them on Gamma Squad for the adoration of all.

YouTube Reactions To ‘GTA V’ Don’t Disappoint In The Dumbassery Department

Written by Nathan Birch / 05.24.13

“Oh God, it’s full of YouTube comments!”

We’re lucky to have a pretty swell bunch of commenters here at Uproxx. Hell, half the time you guys have funnier things to say about whatever I’m posting about than I do. Okay, let’s not go crazy — maybe a third of the time. You know what site doesn’t have a good commenting culture? YouTube. YouTube is your one stop shop for knuckle-dragging idiotic blather on pretty much any subject you can name.

A while back I posted a collection “YouTube Reacts” videos, featuring dramatic readings of dumbass YouTube comments, and the guys behind those earlier videos have just come out with a new one. Hit the jump for YouTube Reacts – Grant Theft Auto V

Sir Christopher Lee Releases Another Metal Album, Prepares To Rock Into Mordor

Written by RoboPanda / 05.24.13

Sir Christopher Lee turns 91 this Monday, and he’s already secured his place in the collective conscience with roles in both Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings, but did you know he also likes to rock? After releasing a symphonic metal album about Charlemagne and Sir Christopher Lee’s A Heavy Metal Christmas, Sir Christopher Lee is releasing another metal album about Charlemagne this weekend. Feel free to reread that sentence however many times it takes to start making sense. (We don’t guarantee it ever will. Some things are just too awesome to be fathomed in this mortal realm.)

Morgan Freeman Explained The Theory Of Multiple Universes On ‘The Daily Show’ Last Night

Written by Maske / 05.24.13

American treasure and giver of zero f*cks, Morgan Freeman, dropped by The Daily Show last night, and Jon Stewart must have been well aware of the veteran actor’s propensity to nod off when discussing his new movie about magicians robbing Terry Benedict’s casino (pretty sure that’s it), because at the 1:00 mark he did away with any notion that they would discuss the film and turned the conversation towards Freeman’s new passion: theoretical physics.

Freeman not only hosts Science channel’s Through the Wormhole (returning June 5th) but he also recently hosted the Fundamental Physics Prize gala in Geneva, so he can morph into Professor Freeman mode at the drop of a hat. Sure, it’s essentially rambling layman talk dressed up in the most soothing voice known to man, but as Jon Stewart so perfectly puts it: “If I had met you in college, I would get mushrooms and you and I would go to a park.” NdGT, watch your back.

The Xbox One Will Have Used Games…But Retailers May Not Sell Them

Written by Dan Seitz / 05.24.13

One of the key problems with the Xbox One many had was the fact that it clamps down, hard, on used game sales. But used game sales aren’t out of the question. They’re just going to be made so worthless, and the process to accept them so complicated, that most retailers won’t even bother. Read the rest of this entry »
