The 5 Best Remixes And Covers Of Daft Punk’s ‘Random Access Memories’

Written by Stacy Lambe / 05.24.13

As you may have heard, Daft Punk’s new album, Random Access Memories, was officially released earlier this week after months of hype. You most probably first heard it when a full album stream hit the internet and later when tracks started popping up on blogs everywhere. Obviously, everyone has an opinion on the end result (including Josh), but now comes the fun part: the remixes, mashups and covers.

It’s surprising that anyone would mess with the duo’s music so quickly, but then again there are already so many great takes on the lead single, “Get Lucky,” and a few other key tracks from the album. Have you heard Daughter’s cover yet? No, then pull out your headphones or turn up the speakers and get clicking through this slideshow.

Written by Josh Kurp / 05.24.13

Proving yet again that heavy metal musicians with songs called “Spill the Blood” are more tolerant than religious junkies, Slayer asked their fans to ignore the Westboro Baptist Church picketers who planned to attend yesterday’s public memorial for the band’s recently deceased co-founder Jeff Hanneman.

Sir Christopher Lee Releases Another Metal Album, Prepares To Rock Into Mordor

Written by RoboPanda / 05.24.13

Sir Christopher Lee turns 91 this Monday, and he’s already secured his place in the collective conscience with roles in both Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings, but did you know he also likes to rock? After releasing a symphonic metal album about Charlemagne and Sir Christopher Lee’s A Heavy Metal Christmas, Sir Christopher Lee is releasing another metal album about Charlemagne this weekend. Feel free to reread that sentence however many times it takes to start making sense. (We don’t guarantee it ever will. Some things are just too awesome to be fathomed in this mortal realm.)

You can tell a holiday weekend is right around the corner because people are dicking off left and right making videos like the Daft Punk/Soul Train mashup we posted earlier. In today’s installment of All Teens Everywhere Are the WORST, an 18-year-old college student was beaten up and may have had her jaw broken by bullies who were, to quote News.com.au, “jealous of her resemblance to US pop star Taylor Swift.” Just imagine what life must be like for guys who look like Pitbull.

Here’s The Soul Train/Daft Punk Mashup You’ve Been Waiting For

Written by The Cajun Boy / 05.23.13

Many have noted that Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories has a distinct disco-era sound and feel to it. Well this confirms it: “Get Lucky” laid over clips from Soul Train. “Daft Train” has been birthed, you guys!

Can I just say that watching this made me absurdly happy and I probably like the song even more now than I did previously. And holy crap was Soul Train awesome. Enjoy!
