‘The Dark Tower’ Resurrected With Russell Crowe And At Least One Film Financed

Written by RoboPanda / 05.17.13

Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are at Cannes unveiling several projects in the pipeline, but the only one we care about is The Dark Tower, AKA Shut Up And Take My Money. The project has been beset with problems. The eight books were adapted as three feature films with two seasons of a TV show to bridge the films, with Javier Bardem signed to play gunslinger Roland Deschain. Bardem’s contract ran out and Russell Crowe signed on in his stead. Then both Warner and Universal passed on the ambitious series. Last we heard, Media Rights Capital were considering using their windfall from unexpected blockbuster Ted to take over the project, and the Vice President of Content at Netflix expressed interest in the TV show. But has anything come from these talks?

Bro, Matt Fraction Has New ‘Hawkeye’ Shirts, Bro

Written by Dan Seitz / 05.17.13

Hawkeye is a book we may have mentioned a little bit in the past. So we are, of course, mildly excited to discover Matt Fraction, the writer, is selling official T-shirts. And even better, they’re going to a good cause. Read the rest of this entry »

Here’s A Couple Clips From The Confusingly Titled ‘Lego Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite!’

Written by Nathan Birch / 05.16.13

Don’t feel bad if you’re not sure what the hell Lego Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite! actually is (aside from a grammatical nightmare). It took me a solid 20 minutes of research to figure it out, but I think I finally have it!

It’s a movie based on Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes the video game (which came out last year). Or who knows, maybe it’s the other way around — all I know is it involves Batman, so I’m going to post about it!

Terrible title aside, the movie(?) looks like it’s going to be pretty charming. Hit the jump for a couple clips…

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Is Great, Until…

Written by Dan Seitz / 05.16.13

Star Trek Into Darkness actually does everything right, regardless of how you feel about the franchise. It’s action-packed; it’s fast-paced; it’s even actually surprisingly thoughtful, raising the question of whether we hunt terrorists damn the torpedoes or whether we stop and think about the moral consequences of our actions. Do we go to our enemies guns blazing and give no quarter, or do we refuse to accept war as an inevitability?

And then everybody loses their damn minds. Spoilers to follow. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Batgirl’ #20: The Comic You Should Be Reading This Week

Written by Dan Seitz / 05.16.13

Batgirl just wrapped up a major arc, and Barbara is a mess due to various events we won’t spoil here. So now would be a very, very bad time for a new psycho killer to show up. Unfortunately, the Ventriloquist has never been noted for his, or rather her, sense of timing. Read the rest of this entry »

Wild Card! The Main Trailer For ‘Pacific Rim’ Is Pretty Cool

Written by RoboPanda / 05.16.13

Warner and Legendary Entertainment released the full main trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim just a few moments ago. Clocking in at the same length as first trailer and the WonderCon footage, this one nonetheless feels like it’s giving us more. We’ve already seen GIFs of robots with rocket elbows punching monsters in the face. We can’t wait to see what GIFs the internet will come up with after this trailer gets around.

The Latest ‘Axe Cop’ Trailer Is About Friendship! Also, Killing. Actually It’s Mostly About Killing.

Written by Nathan Birch / 05.16.13

Is it July 27th yet? Is the Axe Cop show finally, actually on my TV yet? No? Dammit. Well, at least I have a new Axe Cop trailer for us all to watch while we wait impatiently!

This one is about the value of friendship! Friends are pretty important in the world of Axe Cop, although obviously they take a back seat to killing the guy that killed your friends. That’s the best.

Hit the jump for the trailer…

It Looks Like NASA’s Kepler Telescope Has Come To The End Of The Road

Written by RoboPanda / 05.16.13

NASA’s orbiting Kepler telescope launched back in March of 2009, and it soon found scads of exoplanets, some of them even potentially habitable. To date, it’s found 122 confirmed exoplanets and 2,740 potential ones. Kepler completed its three and a half year mission last November, so all the data we’ve been getting from the $600 million project since then has been gravy.

Unfortunately, a malfunction has likely shut down the gravy pipe. Tell Abigail Mae she can cease bending over.
