Jon Stewart Offers An Obituary For Newt Gingrich’s Presidential Candidacy

Written by The Cajun Boy / 01.13.12

Look, anyone with active synapses firing in the brain knew that Newt Gingrich’s stint as the GOP presidential nomination front-runner wouldn’t last very long. After all, the man is pretty much a walking perfect storm of unsavory baggage and pompous arrogance — there was just no way people weren’t going to run for the hills as if he were a monster in a Japanese horror flick once the spotlights were turned on him. Still, it was fun while it lasted, but dismal showings in Iowa and New Hampshire spell doom for the portly bloviator.

So last night newly-minted Colbert Super Pac Chairman Jon Stewart gave Gingrich the biting sendoff he deserved. It was a lovely stroll down memory lane, complete with clips of Gingrich insinuating that all black people are lazy and dominate the nation’s welfare rolls, Gingrich calling Spanish the “language of the ghetto,” Gingrich saying that women shouldn’t serve in combat because of their periods, and Gingrich saying that Palestinians as a people are “invented.” Happy trails, Newt!
