Every now and then the Daily Show will air a segment that really hits home for one reason or another, so much so that I find myself nodding in approval and uttering “Yes!” under my breath repeatedly. Such was the case last night when Jon Stewart illustrated how awful cable news shows are at not spoiling the Olympics for all of us.
“The games, of course, are taking place in London, five hours ahead of the East Coast,” Stewart said with more than a hint of sarcasm. “Luckily the news channels are watching out for you.”
Yeah, except not. As in the screengrab above, hosts doing things like telling viewers to mute their TVs only to show the results of an event on-screen seems to be the rule rather than the exception. Why is this such a hard thing for these people to do?

It’s like the anonymity of the winners of these events just doesn’t mean anything anymore, so why watch the games to begin with when 3 major news networks are just going to pop open their handy dandy laptops, find the results, get all, “OMG I KNOW WHO WON, GET ON THE AIR” and tell everyone. It’s redundant and just flat out inconsiderate of those who actually just want to have the experience of the Olympics without having some jackass, or blonde bimbo from FOX ruin it for everyone because they don’t know/have nothing else to do better or report on than ruin the only thing this country really has to look forward to. When will this madness end, when will SOMEONE actually tell these networks to stop f***** up all the time in this manner and just air them like THE REST OF THE SPORTING EVENTS THAT COME ON.
