A Golden Treasury of Kutiman YouTube Mashups

Kutiman was born Ophir Kutiel in Jerusalem and grew up in a small village where he studied music.  In college he studied Jazz and was eventually introduced to Afrobeat and Funk.  He traveled to Jamaica to study that new sound.  Back in 2009, he released the “ThruYou” on YouTube.  The project used samples of other YouTube members playing music on camera, mashing up their tracks into a full song.  He also gives credit to all the YouTube videos used in each video’s description at the site.  The project went viral and was named one of the top 50 Best Inventions of 2009 by Time Magazine.
Last week he released “My Favorite Band”, which mashes up several covers of Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog”.  Kutiman tells Wired, “Led Zeppelin is one of my favorite bands, actually one of a few bands I was listening to growing up in a small village. Working on this song was great fun with a touch of nostalgia.”   That new video is on the next page along with ten more of our favorite Kutiman YouTube mashups:
