Frank Ocean’s Video For ‘Swim Good’ Is, Well, So Good

Whoa — two new Frank Ocean videos in two days? Well, okay, why not?

Yes, after unleashing a collaboration with the High 5 Collective yesterday, Ocean posted another video on his Tumblr this morning — this one for “Swim Good,” arguably my favorite song off his debut Nostalgia, Ultra.

There have been days where I’ve listened to this song over and over on repeat. It’s just funky, smooth and kinda sexy, and the narrative he spins in the lyrics is a compelling one: a heartbroken man drives to the ocean where, based on my interpretation of the song, he plans to commit suicide by swimming out into the sea until he can’t swim any more. What I hadn’t been able to figure out previously is whether or not his girlfriend’s corpse is in the trunk of his car he’s driving to the ocean.

That’s a pretty big trunk on my Lincoln town car, ain’t it?
Big enough to take these broken hearts and put ’em in it
Now I’m driving ’round on the boulevard, trunk bleeding
And every time the cops pull me over, they don’t ever see them

I’ve never been able to figure out if these verses were meant to be taken literally or figuratively. Let’s just say that the video answers all the questions that I had. Enjoy…
