Last week, when word surfaced that a David Lee Roth fronted Van Halen had played an intimate show at New York’s Cafe Wha? to kick off a reunion tour, it almost didn’t seem real to me. I mean, David Lee Roth strutting around a stage again after all these years? SAY WHAT?! Last I’d heard he was living on the Lower East Side and was working as a paramedic.
But then today the band released the video for “Tattoo” — the first single off of their new album, A Different Kind of Truth, which goes on sale next month — and it all suddenly seemed very real. There he is strutting around a stage again. Like a boss, no less. For the band — which now consists of Roth, guitarist Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen and bassist Wolfgang Van Halen (the son of Valerie Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen) — it’s their first song with Roth in 27 years. There’s a good chance many of you reading this weren’t even born inside of that time span.
Watching this made me feel both young and old at the same time, if that makes any sense at all. Perhaps it will do likewise for you. Enjoy.

This song sounds like something they’d try to do with Sammy Hagar. Dave’s voice obviously isn’t coming close to the high notes these days. I hope the rest of the album is better than this mid-tempo bust.
I have to admit: I’ve long been on #teamhagar.
I’m also #teamhagar, maybe just because the Roth glory days were before my time. Makes me happy to know Sammy is sitting back, making paper selling tequila as opposed to participating in a washed up tour with Valerie Bertinelli’s kid.
There’s also a Crystal Pepsi joke in here somewhere.
oh man, I was kinda liking the video until they went the quinceañera way.
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?
Old Band is Old.
/teamcherone
song is too long.
Too long, but Dave is still gangsta. He was about to Crip Walk in the intro.
Dave did 2 songs with them back in 96′ when Hagar left and Dave returned for about 3 seconds. but only hardcore fans like myself now that lol. I’ll be at MSG on the 28th. Long Live The Mighty Van Halen!!
Wow. That is one bad song. It doesn’t rock so much as it plods along. It sounds like one of those bar bands you run into from time to time; the ones that can’t play fast enough to play rock, so they play covers of Clapton blues songs instead.
Well, this is simply awful.
SKIBBIDIBBIDEEEEBOP WOOOOOOOOOOO WWEEE
