“That sh*t cray!”
As our self-appointed resident expert on all renditions of Jay-Z and Kanye’s “Ni**as in Paris” (previously: here and here), I feel obligated to point out that Katy Perry covered the track for some reason during her recent Radio 1 Live Lounge session. During the performance she not only donned a sideways Yankee cap to channel Jay, she also inserted “my ninjas” all Underground Festival-style in order to keep it real while also not stepping over any boundaries. B*tch behave!
I’m not exactly sure what to call it. Katy Perry-ized hip hop? Simply surreal, maybe? I mean, it’s not completely unlistenable even though I’ll never listen to it again. And she doesn’t fall flat on her face but she doesn’t exactly bring the house down 8 Mile-style either. I guess what I’m really trying to say is, “Show your t*ts!”
