Hear The National's Tyrion-Approved Song From The 'Game of Thrones' Soundtrack

The National is one of my favorite bands. Game of Thrones is one of my favorite shows. Put the two together, and you’ve got: a really depressing song. “The Rains of Castamere,” which appears on Game of Thrones: Season Two soundtrack, due out June 19, is a dirge-like ballad about — gonna keep things vague here — a certain Lord’s victory over a certain House. Singer Matt Berninger’s voice barely raises above a deep whisper, while his bandmates play mournfully around him. It pairs nicely with their song from Portal 2.

The National live down the street from me and often hang out at a nearby bar, which doubles as a flower shop because, well, Brooklyn. Next time I see them there, I’m going to buy them SO much mead and ALL the barrels of wine. And then we’ll spend a nice evening discussing all the different ways we’d slap Joffrey.
