Last night while doing some work I listened to the NPR stream of Gaslight Anthem’s new album, Handwritten, and HOLY CRAP DO I LOVE IT, YOU GUYS. I fully second Kurp’s assessment that it’s the best cathartic rock album of the year. Seriously, buy it. It’s fantastic.
I know, shocking, right?! Anyway, buy Handwritten and set your DVRs — they’ll be performing on Jimmy Fallon’s show this Friday night. In the meantime, enjoy the video embedded above for the album’s title track — and prepare to feel compelled to run through a wall of fire after you do.

According to reviews I’ve read, written by people with glasses and “fans” of this band that I love, I should not like this album because it’s not as good as 59 Sound.
FUCK THOSE PEOPLE!!!
I love 59 sound, but this album is pretty fantastic so I agree with the general sentiment of “fuck those people”
Yep, fuck those people. I’ve been a fan of them since their fucking demos were put up on Punknews and I couldn’t get enough of the NPR stream. My only complaint: my pre-order shipped Monday but didn’t arrive in the mail yesterday.
Fuck those people indeed. The ’59 Sound is a great album, but Handwritten is right there with it. They are a band that you must see live, too.
Mulholland Drive is one of the best songs they’ve ever made. This album is fantastic and they’ve gotten even better performing live.
Never seen them live. Think I might spontaneously combust if I did.
