How happy were you during last week's episode of Breaking Bad when Walt and Jesse began cooking again? Because I was very happy. It had been far too long since the last meth-making montage, and as ever, the song used to soundtrack the scene, "On A Clear Day You Can See Forever" by the Peddlers, was an oddly perfect choice. (The track comes from a Broadway play of the same name, but I'm sure you Alan Jay Lerner fans out there already knew that.) Since the pilot, music has played an integral part on Breaking Bad, so we've collected every song that has played during a scene where Walt and/or Jesse make Blue Sky. We don't recommend playing these tracks while cooking your own meth, but we do suggest listening to Ana Tijoux's "1977" a lot.
Episode: "Pilot" (S01E01)
Song: "Dead Fingers Talking" by Working in a Nuclear Free City
Episode: "Gray Matter" (S01E05)
Song: "Uh!" by Fujiya & Miyagi
Episode: "Four Days Out" (S02E09)
Song: "One by One" by the Black Seeds
Episode: "Sunset" (S03E06)
Song: "Ginza Samba" by Vince Guaraldi and Bola Sete
Episode: "Abiquiu" (S03E11)
Song: "Shake a Bone" by Son of Dave
Episode: "Full Measure" (S03E13)
Song: "Man Chang Fei" by Zang Fan
(Played while Gale is cooking...food in his apartment before POW.)
Episode: "Shotgun" (S04E05)
Song: "1977" by Ana Tijoux
Episode: "Bug" (S04E09)
Song: "Scrambled Eggs" by Nat Adderley
(This isn't played over a meth cooking montage; rather, you hear it when Gus cooks stew for Jesse.)
Episode: "Hazard Pay" (S05E03)
Song: "On a Clear Day, You Can See Forever" by the Peddlers

incredible post, and i particularly loved the last cook they did. the music to this show is absolutely perfect. but to me, the scene where jesse goes back to his house party when fever ray “if i had a heart” was the apex
Anyone else get a Smithers and Burns toe-skipping-thru-the-power-plant vibe from the Gale and Walt video? I miss Gale!
Nice. Not cooking scenes, but my favorite musical piece is the shot of Walt telling the amateur cooks in the Home Depot parking lot to stay off his turf, with TV on the Radio’s “DLZ” rising up in the background. Great tune, and the lyrics are perfect: “Never you mind, death professor / Your structure’s fine, my dust is better / Your victim flies so high / All to catch a bird’s eye view of who’s next”
A close second is Gale singing along to Quartetto Certa’s “Crapa Pelada” in his apartment. So right for the character, and the scene opens up on that skull that looks like how Gus winds up.
Co-sign on this scene as my favorite. I’ve referenced this one more than once in discussions about the show and its music.
I always have Soundhound on the ready while I watch Breaking Bad.
Haha, same.
As a side question; Have they referenced the meth as ‘Blue Sky’ on the show? Might need to get a montage with Midnight Oil’s ‘Blue Sky Mine’.
