If you’ve seen the trailer for The Great Gatsby that’s been playing in theaters for months, you know that it’s set to Jay-Z and Kanye West’s No Church in the Wild, so the news that Jay is apparently scoring the movie might not come as a huge surprise, but it still feels somewhat surprising nonetheless.
Now, no official word has come from “Hova” or Gatsby’s producers, mind you, but Jay-Z collaborator Jeymes Samuel of The Bullitts tweeted last night that the two were hard at work on the score for the film — the soundtrack for which is reported to include new music from Prince and Lady Gaga.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and predict an Oscar nomination for Jay-Z for his work here. This just seems like a perfect fit for him. Refer back to the aforementioned trailer for reference…

Might as well just set the movie to disco or Buddy Holly. That makes about as much sense.
Eh well, the trailers music doesn’t mean anything.. Just look at 300 with awesome NIN or Watchmen with Smashing Pumpkins.. (both those trailers got my hopes up that the movies might contain that music… *sad sigh*)
I would of used 99 Problems. He seems to have girl problems and I feel bad him son.
Maybe he’s just putting together the score? Trent Reznor doesn’t turn every movie score into a NIN album. The problem I have is the bullitts referring to the Gatsby movie as classic. The book (I guess) is a classic (it bored me to tears) but who says the movie will be?
He purchased an Audi for 9 grand? Spam math is awesome.
I was willing to bet they would fuck this project up. I’d now like to double down. Feeling similar about James Franco trying to adapt Faulkner.
