On this Sunday's episode of The Simpsons, musician Tom Waits, who has coughed up phlegm cooler than you or I, will guest star as a...eh, it doesn't really matter, does it? It's a season 24 Simpsons episode, so expect him to be awkwardly shoehorned into the episode as a truck driver or taxidermist for for about 15 seconds, never to be heard of again. Still, this news is noteworthy because Tom Waits is the best, whether he's singing (Rain Dogs or GTFO) or acting (Mystery Men, Coffee & Cigarettes, etc.)
In honor of Waits' Springfield cameo, here are 10 other "hip diggity dog," as the kids say, musicians who have appeared on animated shows over the years. (Only chose clips that are on YouTube, which excluded, say, when Big Boi was on King of the Hill.) Honorable mention goes to David Bowie (that's good) on SpongeBob SquarePants (that's bad), but don't worry, we won't subject you to that.

I celebrate any and all things Thugnificent
Nice to see TMBG make a top ten list around these here parts.
My Space Ghost pick would have been Tenacious D getting their whole rendition of Fuck Her Gently covered up by another song.
Give me Bjork and the stream of marriage commentary that comes in so handy.
I was a pretty big fan of The Ramones’ appearance (when they steal & eat Space Ghost’s party cake)
Still my all time favorite South Park episode.
Imagine if David Bowie had actually voiced himself on The Venture Brothers…
Also, Dave Grohl is God.
Beck on Futurama is probably the better Beck cameo, but I still love his appearance on Space Ghost more, especially because Space Ghost could barely stop singing Where It’s At. All fine choices, though.
Frank Zappa on Ren and Stimpy. As The Pope!
Radiohead on South Park was great. Dare I say Robert Smith on South Park was better?
Hmm.. The Scott Tennerman episode was possibly the best episode ever, but Smith did beat up Mechastraisand… I have to call draw.
Killer Mike on Frisky Dingo/X-Tacles
PRESIDENT TAQUILL, BOOSH AND/OR KAKOW
Does anyone else remember Tiny Toons doing a thing to They Might Be Giants songs or am I imagining it?
I don’t recall Tiny Toons doing it, but Animaniacs did.
No, Leigh is right. They did it “Istanbul” and “Particle Man” for an episode called Tiny Toons Music Television. Particle Man was about pro-wrestling so of course I remember this like a boss.

Particle Man on Tiny Toons. Had a whole wrestling thing behind it, and it was part of a whole musical episode.
Haha the Futurama episode with Beck is in SAP
I miss SGCTC so much.
“Hey Michael… is that you in the corner?”
hello
please bring back space ghost. netflix, are you listening?
I will watch the Tom Waits segment. Be the first time I’ve paid attention to the
Simpsons in like a decade.
Hey, what about the Beastie Boys on Futurama? Thats at least as cool as Beck, maybe even cooler. And its one of my favorite episodes.
I’m surprised that johnny cash on the simpsons isn’t on here.
