Yesterday, I noted that Beyonce’s national anthem performance at the inauguration was “pretty damn good.” And it was! However, it was lip-synced, which makes it somehow illegitimate, according to countless idiots on Twitter who are reacting to this news as if it were revealed that Beyonce was Jay-Z’s fake girlfriend or something.
Reports the Times of London:
Beyoncé did not sing the national anthem live at President Obama’s inauguration.
Millions of viewers around the world were stunned by the singer’s spectacular rendition of the anthem but The Times has learnt that she was lip-syncing to a pre-recorded backing track.
A spokeswoman for the Marine Corp Band Kristen DuBois said it was standard procedure to record a backing track and Beyoncé decided shortly before her performance to rely on the studio version rather than sing it live on the Capitol.
Oh well. I guess Whitney Houston’s rendition of the National Anthem at the 1991 Super Bowl will go back to being universally regarded as the best performance of the song ever. Except, a little known fact: Houston lip-synced that one as well.
Meanwhile, I accidentally clicked on a link that led me to TMZ and discovered that someone over there actually wrote this sentence: “Kelly Clarkson doesn’t compare to Beyonce — because Kelly actually sang her song LIVE yesterday at the Presidential Inauguration … TMZ has learned … unlike Beyonce, who lip-synced to a pre-recorded track.”
Wait, Kelly Clarkson > Beyonce?! Go f*ck yourself, TMZ.
Meanwhile, in New Orleans — where people have their priorities in order — folks are more concerned about which poboy joint Beyonce ate at last night than they are about her lip-syncing the National Anthem.

Am I missing something? Does it not say that Clarkson sang her thing without a pre-recording? I wouldn’t mind if Beyonce trotted up there and said: “I sang this really well in the studio so we’re just going to play that right now…” Instead of legit pretending like she was belting out the National Anthem (which used to be a big deal especially at the Inauguration). It’s a fraud’s behavior, in my opinion. It has no reflection on Obama or anyone else but her. And maybe we should get past this “everyone is doing it” bs that we all can say for anything and start finding people accountable for their dishonesty. Stop worshiping people who don’t have any respect for you.

I said it up there, it has no reflection on anyone but Beyonce. If it’s as innocuous as you claim, then why does she have to fake it? Why can’t she have your attitude towards it and just sing the thing? It’s because she’s happy to let people think that she did nail that performance rather than be honest about it. No, I don’t see a pattern forming. Because as was noted in the article, famous artists have been lip syncing the National Anthem for over 20 years, Don’t try to tie it to the Lance Armstrong thing as some horseshit indictment on our society today. That just makes you look like a loon, not that you need the help.
And the reason why someone would lip sync the National Anthem is because there’s a decent chance they’ll fuck it up. People that live sing it do it all the time. It’s a deceptively difficult song to remember. And she’s going to get just as much flak for that as she would syncing it. The difference is, she doesn’t risk ruining the moment at that time and can at least deal with the backlash later and not ruin the president’s day. She’s not trying to “fool” anybody. It always comes out that they lip sync’d it and like clockwork shitheads like you flip out and act like they personally offended you.

I think you’re reaching here. So because he pointed out that Whitney Houston has lip synced the National Anthem, it has happened every year for 20 years? Actually I guarantee if you took the time (which I don’t expect you or I to do) we could find an example of some pop star lip syncing the nationa anthem every year for the past 20 years.
