Last month, DJ Shadow, whose 1996 debut album Endtroducing….. is a must listen, was playing a Miami, Florida nightclub, Mansion, when his set was cut short. Apparently, club promoters thought, according to Shadow, “this sh*t is too future for y’all,” because they’re 150 years old? They’ve since apologized, but the damage was done, and as retaliation, Shadow released the mix in question to SoundCloud yesterday.
DJ Shadow’s “All Basses Covered” set has morphed and evolved to incorporate as many different contemporary genres of urban and electronic music as possible. From hardcore rap to footwork and juke and beyond, Shadow has combed the web to curate seamless and dexterous blends of the most progressive sounds bubbling up from the underground. ‘Too hard?’ ‘Too future?’ Or just too raw? As always, DJ Shadow has provoked crucial flashpoints of discussion about the discipline of DJ’ing that have defined our turbulent times. (Via)
Judge for yourself if a remix of The Simpsons theme song (35 minutes in) is “too future.”

I’ve farted catchier tunes.
Sike, no i haven’t.
When I saw DJ Shadow was playing Mansion I figured it was an art joke promoted by Joaquin Phoenix.
Fucking. White. People.
To be honest, I’m torn on this one. Yes, the mix is kinda awesome, and if I was on shrooms surrounded by lava lamps it might be amazing. If you hire a DJ to do a set, you let them do their damn set. The promoters are dumb douches for not knowing enough about the artist they brought in.
Conversely, this is not shitty Florida club music. Bobby Bottleservice and Slutty McTantitties would have a hard time grinding on tha flo to this type of sonic soundscape. The patronage was most likely at near-riot before they pulled the plug. Horribly uncool, but understandable.
Bobby Bottleservice would request something weirder, like cows grinding against chickens while drinking from a bottle of ketchup. Or something like that.
“Slutty McTantitties”
Fucking amazing.
I imagine this polite note being passed to Shadow mid-mix: Dear DJ, please stop hurting our brains with music that is actually musical. Sincerely, Bobby Bottleservice and Slutty McTantitties
DJ Shadow is a legend, let him get his art gallery on

Let’s be real, that set did suck. Especially if your not a loser and actually trying to dance with a girl at the club…If you went to the club and your not danceing with a girl, (which will be some fags comeback), then have fun masterbateing in a few hours….This place wasn’t a festival or some shit.
