“Crying” was written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson in 1961. It’s since been honored with a Grammy Hall of Fame Award and Rolling Stone ranked it as the 69th greatest song of all-time. But it wasn’t until this week that we listened to the song as it was always meant to be heard: with a cat. Specifically, Snacks the Cat, whose once-in-a-generation meow can be heard at the 2:20 mark in Best Coast’s emotional lo-fi cover.
Rolling Stone has amended their list and now Snacks the Cat’s “Crying” is listed at #1.
