R.I.P. Lil Wayne (Or Not): Explaining What Happened To Weezy Via GIFs

Where were you when you found out Lil Wayne was dead…until he wasn’t?

I was at a bar, and after hearing two separate conversations around me mention Mr. Carter, I looked at Twitter and saw a slew of tweets mentioning the rapper, some saying he was dead, others saying he was fine. It was confusing to piece together (especially because when I see “Wayne” and a “-man” alter ego together in the same 140 characters, my mind doesn’t immediately go to Tunechi), so we’re here to help: below is a breakdown of what happened, when it happened, with some helpful visual assistance, too. Or if you don’t want to be spoiled, you can wait until The Newsroom covers the story in season 18.

The first report, via TMZ: “Lil Wayne is in ICU in critical condition after suffering yet another seizure, and we’re told it doesn’t look good … TMZ has learned.”

What happened? “Sources say there’s evidence Wayne went on a Sizzurp binge after being released Wednesday, because doctors found high amounts of codeine in his system.”

In TMZ’s original post, it read, “We’re told Wayne is being given his last rites … with his family surrounding him to say their goodbyes.” They also wrote, “Wayne’s mother is currently flying to Los Angeles — and we’re told all major decisions about Wayne’s health (including the decision to discontinue life support) will not be made until she arrives.”

But that was later changed because it wasn’t true.

Young Money/Cash Money’s Mack Maine tweeted, “Wayne is alive and well! We watching the Syracuse game…thanks for the prayers and concern..he will update you all soon. #love.” Then, “”We will be releasing an official statement shortly but dont believe the nonsense about comas and tubes to breathe…that’s false!!”

Then it was Lil Wayne’s turn to chime in, tweeting, “I’m good everybody. Thx for the prayers and love.”

After #pray4wheezy became a trending topic, Mack Maine went after the rumor spreaders: “#FUCKTMZ”

So what’s the status of Tunechi this morning? CNN reports that indeed he did suffer a seizure last night, but “is recovering,” according to his publicist. He should walk out of the hospital just fine in a few days.

Also, Drake was there, for Drake is everywhere.
