You can have your *NSYNC and eat it, too — we’ll take the Replacements instead. Last night in Toronto at Riot Fest, Paul Westerberg, the voice of a lonesome, confused, drunk generation, joined Tommy Stinson (as well as newcomers Josh Freese and David Minehan) onstage for the first time in over two decades. “Sorry it took us so long,” Westberg said with a smirk, “For 25 years we’ve been having a wardrobe debate…unresolved.”
According to Slicing Up Eyeballs, the band played a 23-song set, with selections from all over their career, including lots of Let It Be and Tim, a bit of All Shook Down, and of course some covers, including Chuck Berry’s “Maybellene.” Oh yeah, and the ‘Mats went from “Can’t Hardly Wait” to “Bastards of Young,” which, jesus.
