Amazon launches ‘Backstory,’ site discussion forum immediately taken over by birthers

Yesterday afternoon Amazon launched Backstory, a site Techcrunch describes as a “content destination” that “includes interviews with authors, guest reviews, authors’ favorite playlists, recipes, podcasts, essays and more.”

Sounds grand, no? Lofty even. A place for thinkers. A discussion hub for people who read books not advertised on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show or on AnnCoulter.com. So why the hell are the discussion boards linked on the Backstory homepage filled with doltish birthers?

I swear, these people are everywhere and they won’t seem to go away — they’re like human cockroaches.

When I clicked on the link, “Where’s the Birth Certificate?: The Case that Barack Obama is not Eligible to be President forum,” I was brought to a page that featured over 100 discussions and countless replies — all centering around some of the wackiest Obama-related conspiracies I’ve ever seen (the one about both Obama’s having their law licenses stripped away is especially ripe). Is this where these people are congregating now? On freaking Amazon.com? What happened to Yahoo Newsgroups, their old hangout? Can we just give them f*cking Texas for Christ’s sake and call it a day?!

GET OFF MY INTERNET, AS*HOLES!!!
