Pat Tillman was killed 7 years ago today

Seven years ago today, on April 22, 2004, Pat Tillman was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan. The U.S. Army then tried to cover it up for public relations purposes. Period.

This weekend, if you haven’t already seen The Tillman Story, the gripping documentary about his life and his family’s remarkable fight to get to the bottom of what happened to him (available via Netflix), or read Jon Krakauer’s book on the subject, “Where Men Win Glory,” may I kindly suggest you invest some time in doing so — his is a story that every American should be aware of and never be forgotten.

Here’s my favorite scene from the documentary — it features Pat’s brother Richard, at Pat’s funeral, in a t-shirt and jeans, sipping a pint of Guinness, speaking nothing but truth, which was a fitting tribute to everything his brother was and stood for during his life, I think.
