WOODY ALLEN

Woody Allen (born Allen Stewart Konigsberg; December 1, 1935) is an Academy Award winning American film director, screenwriter, actor, comedian, musician and playwright.

Allen's distinctive films, which run the gamut from dramas to screwball sex comedies, have made him one of the most respected living American directors. He is also distinguished by his rapid rate of production and his very large body of work.  Allen writes and directs his movies and has also acted in the majority of them. For inspiration, Allen draws heavily on literature, sexuality, philosophy, psychology, Jewish identity, European cinema and New York City, where he was born and has lived his entire life.

Allen is also a jazz clarinetist. What began as a teenage avocation has led to regular public performances at various small venues in his Manhattan hometown, with occasional appearances at various jazz festivals. Allen joined the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the New Orleans Funeral Ragtime Orchestra in performances that provided the film score for his 1973 comedy Sleeper, and a rare European tour in 1996 featuring Allen was the subject of the documentary Wild Man Blues. Bill Bennett notes that 138 film industry types including Woody Allen, Pedro Almodovar and Martin Scorsese, have demanded the immediate release of fellow filmmaker Roman Polanski. Woody Allen Is Going Down to Rio

via slashfilm.com ( 64 Days ago )
After being cold-shouldered by the US studios, Woody Allen turned to globe trotting for both the finance and the settings for his projects. Match Point, Scoop, Cassandra’s Dream and his untitled 2009 project have all been set in London, Vicky Cristina Barcelona took place in, well, Barcelona, and now it looks as though he’s heading to Brazil for his 2011 production. He Hates Mullets; Loves Red Sox, Robbing Banks

via sportsbybrooks.com ( 130 Days ago )
I used to think that Woody Allen’s character in “Take the Money and Run” was the worst bank robber ever. For one thing, he’s foiled during one attempt when he misspells the robbery note. “‘No sudden moves, I’ve got a gub.’ What’s a gub?” But Boston area bank robbers may have that beat. Meet William Donovan, who has poured [...]

OPEN THREAD: What Awkward Converstion Happened Between Woody and Russell?

via bestweekever.tv ( 140 Days ago )
It seems that at yesterday’s Wimbledon finals the rest of Hollywood ditched out and forget to tell Woody Allen and Russell Crowe. The two men ended up sitting a row apart, and judging from this photo were avoiding the inevitable “we’re both famous, I guess we have to acknowledge each other” conversation. If they did even talk, I see it going one of two ways: Russell: [...]
