HERM EDWARDS

Herman Edwards, Jr. (born April 27, 1954) is an American football coach in the National Football League. He most recently held the head coaching position of the Kansas City Chiefs. He was fired from this position on January 23, 2009 . He played the position of cornerback for ten seasons (1977–1986) with the Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams and Atlanta Falcons. Prior to his coaching career, Edwards was known best as the player who recovered a fumble by Giants quarterback Joe Pisarcik on a play that has been dubbed by some as "The Miracle at the Meadowlands."

Before being hired as the tenth head coach in Kansas City Chiefs history, Edwards was the head coach of the New York Jets from 2001–2005. He is infamous for his gameday terminology, known by fans as "Hermisms," including the quote and sound bite, "You play to win the game!", a message that Edwards gave during a New York Jets press conference. It also became the title of his book, a collection of "leadership lessons" for the reader to use as personal motivation. (via Wikipedia)

Cubs Lose As Piniella Forgets the Reason Sports are Played

via bleacherreport.com ( 232 Days ago )
Cubs manager Lou Piniella may have forgotten the one universal rule that exists in professional sports.  For a reminder of that one rule, let's ask our friend Herm Edwards his opinion of why professional sports are played.  Edwards, the former Head Coach of the New York Jets, gained fame for his legendary comment during a post-game interview. "You play to win the game." Thanks [...]

Chiefs Offseason Report Card: Todd Haley and the Coaching Staff

via mvn.com ( 242 Days ago )
Head Coach: As most of you know, I liked Herm Edwards better than most people did. I still believe that he was a decent head coach crippled by a GM who was in his post a few years longer than he should have been and who refused to let his team rebuild in the way Herm wanted to. That being said, I still agree with Pioli's decision to fire him. I hope Herm Edwards goes to another team [...]

Jet Setter Leon Washington Leads New York Jets By Example

via bleacherreport.com ( 258 Days ago )
When the Jets traded coach Herm Edwards in 2006, the Chiefs' fourth-round draft pick seemed like decent compensation. Few could have guessed what that pick would become—one of the Jets' most explosive players in recent history. It's three seasons later and Edwards is merely a memory in Kansas City. In New York, Leon Washington is just starting to hit his stride. With a Pro-Bowl [...]

3rd Pick: Chiefs Pick Tyson Jackson, DE LSU

via thebiglead.com ( 290 Days ago )
3-for-3! Former Chiefs coach Herm Edwards, who has been erroneously vilified in New York, said he would have traded down. Had no idea the time between picks this round was 10 minutes instead of 15. Awesome. On the down side, there’s a juicy steak ready to hit the grill and this new format has put a wrinkle in those plans.

PM Roundup: Herm Edwards’ New Job

My second favorite WAG, Danielle Lloyd… I watched Be Kind Rewind this morning. (I have a lot of time on my hands.) It is would have been a decent concept if the film came out 15 years ago. In 2008 its just YouTube: The Movie. The one saving grace was the fact that the film starred three of the top comic minds of the last 20 years - Jack Black, Mos Def and Danny Glover. Clear [...]

'Ideal situation': Chiefs announce new coach Haley

Todd Haley was hired as coach of the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday after helping the Arizona Cardinals reach the Super Bowl as coordinator of one of the NFL's most exciting offenses. Haley joins a team that went a franchise-worst 2-14 under coach Herm Edwards, who was fired Jan. 23. HALEY’S IMMEDIATE PLANS: GOING TO PRO BOWL

via profootballtalk.com ( 372 Days ago )
The reported frontrunner to become the Kansas City Chiefs’ successor to fired coach Herm Edwards has no immediate plans to sit down with Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli, according to the Kansas City Star. Unless Todd Haley is taking a detour to Kansas City on his way to Hawaii, site of the Pro Bowl, or Pioli is
