David Stern doesn't mind NBA players having guns to protect their homes, but he is no longer cool with players packing heat around town.
“It’s a pretty, I think, widely accepted statistic that if you carry a gun, your chances of being shot by one increase dramatically. We think this is an alarming subject, that although you’ll read players saying how they feel safer with guns, in fact those guns actually make them less safe. And it’s a real issue.”
He then added, "And I'd really appreciate if they acted a little bit more — what's the word I'm looking for? — white."
Of course, Stern's missive is most likely a result of Stephen Jackson's strip club shooting, but any smart NBA player already knows that you have your friends carry guns. (Isn't that right, Sebastian Telfair?)
Personally, I find handguns to be such a boring, cliched form of violence. You can do much more interesting things with a knife. And it's a much more intimate way to kill.
