Denver Broncos offensive lineman Matt McChesney suffered a potential career ending injury when a golf cart rolled over his surgically repaired ankle. This could be his third time on the injured reserve since signing with the Jets an an undrafted free agent in 2005. Hey, he still has that other ankle. What’s the big deal?
McChesney, who had a shot to make the Broncos’ roster this year as a backup center and guard, had climbed out of the golf cart he was driving to approach his ball. Just as McChesney got out, the trailing cart was driving by and accidently clipped his ankle. It was the same ankle McChesney had surgically repaired after a preseason injury last year. –Denver Post
McChesney is expected to retire, despite encouragement from Broncos staff to rehabilitate his injury and compete for a spot on the roster. His injury plagued career has limited him to playing just a single game since the 2008 season. He’s like the white JaMarcus Russell.
This is the second non-football related injury suffered by a Broncos offensive linemen in less than a month. All-Pro tackle Ryan Clady partially tore the patellar tendon in his left knee while playing basketball on April 23. He is expected to miss offseason workouts and the preseason. Another reason for Josh McDaniels to not be a happy camper.
