Sterling Archer Draper Pryce: ‘Archer’ Meets ‘Mad Men’ For Quite Possibly The Most Appropriate TV Mashup Yet

01.20.12 Written by Maske

It’s no secret we’re big fans of TV mashup Tumblrs, so highlighting the new and arguably most fitting one I’ve ever come across feels like an appropriate way to bring a close to UPROXX Archer Week. Almost as appropriate as the mashup itself. Not only do the two subjects — Archer and Mad Men — match up to perfection, but even the title wordplay is like a gift from above.

Sterling Archer Draper Pryce is in its infancy — and could use a lesson in high res stills — but the possibilities are seemingly endless. So let’s get cracking anonymous internet person behind it! They aren’t going to make themselves! I’m pretty sure last night’s Burt-tastic Season 3 premiere alone warrants at least two pages worth. For my part I’ve made a timely contribution (next slide) from last night. I dare you to not approve.

Attention Adam Reed: Archer time machine episode that puts Sterling Archer in a room with Roger Sterling. Make it happen.

UPROXX ‘Archer’ Live Blog: ‘The Man From Jupiter’

01.19.12 Written by Maske

Today’s installment of UPROXX Archer Week also doubles as an intro to our new weekly recurring segment where we all come together and celebrate the best animated comedy television has to offer. We’ll race to lay claim to our new favorite lines, point out obscure awesomeness others may have missed, and share the finest new media as soon as it hits the web. It will pretty much be an all out attempt to out-geek each other in real time, which for me is a step up from attempting to out-geek myself in real time.

To add to the excitement (like me replying “I swear I had something for this” to all your comments isn’t incentive enough), FX has been awesome enough to provide us with some swagtastic goodies to award to tonight’s best comment. How does Archer seasons 1 & 2 on DVD + a copy “How to Archer: The Ultimate Guide to Espionage and Style and Women and Also Cocktails Ever Written” sound? Not bad, eh? Next week I’ll try to score Aisha’s ISIS mug for a giveaway, but for tonight the winner gets these three items.

Early talking points. What do we know going into tonight’s episode?

SPLOOSH! A Tribute To Archer’s Pam Poovey

01.18.12 Written by Burnsy

The role of a supporting character on primetime television shows is one of the most unrewarding roles in all of show business. After all, nobody ever cares about the side show at the circus, just the main event. This applies double when you’re talking about primetime cartoons, because a successful animated program is a rare breed. But if I were granted the honor of creating the Pantheon of Primetime Supporting Characters – and I just was, because I can do what I want – I would say there are four members: Milhouse Van Houten, Randy Marsh, Franklin Sherman and now… Pam Poovey.

It’s pretty obvious that we love Archer – we have dubbed this Archer Week, after all – so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that we’re going to celebrate its characters, but I’m taking it a step further by saying that I think Pam is the best thing about FX’s best show (sorry Justified and Sons of Anarchy fans, but I’m a comedy guy). Don’t get me wrong, “Archer” may have the best cartoon cast ensemble ever put together, and I may or may not have a Jessica Rabbit-esque crush on Cheryl/Carol, but Pam’s presence propels the show into the upper echelon of primetime TV solely because of her crude-but-endearing delivery.

Pam won me over the first time she said, “Sploosh” while listening to Sterling Archer describe a threesome with sisters and she kept my love alive with every “Chikka chikka chow” and Blob Marley since then. Voiced by the amazing Amber Nash, Pam is the glue that holds Archer together, so I offer this tribute to the daughter of Poovey Farms.

‘Archer,’ Podcasting, Lana Kane Cosplay, Veal Cutlets, And Truckasaurus Hands: An Interview With Aisha Tyler

01.17.12 Written by Maske

As part of Archer Week here at UPROXX Aisha Tyler was awesome enough to spend some time chatting with me about the show’s success, her new podcasting gig, and the burning questions about Lana Kane’s outfits that need answers.

So how was it to chat with her? Well, think of how delightful you assume a conversation with Aisha Tyler would be, now multiply that by a hundred, and then you’re kind of getting close. We kicked things off discussing where Archer and her career intersect with web culture and then transitioned into some quick-fire questions for pop culture enthusiasts. The interview has been edited for length.

The Best Of #Sterling Archer

01.16.12 Written by Maske

WELCOME TO WHORE ISLAND ARCHER WEEK AT UPROXX! Call Kenny Loggins because we’re dedicating the entire week to all things ISIS and the best animated show on television. Over the next couple of days we’ll be going live with one Archer-ific feature after another, leading up to Thursday night’s premiere (Burt Reynolds people!) that I’ll be live blogging as part of a new regular FX comedy weekly conversation. It will be kind of like the GG’s open thread but with more ocelot references. Get excited.

It only feels right to get the ball rolling with the best of Code Name “Duchess” and go from there. Even if you’ve never seen an episode (seriously, get it together) I see no way Sterling Archer doesn’t become your spirit guide after this compilation of tactinecks, pirate deaths, hooker phrasing, and more.

Check back in this week for exclusives, giveaways, excessive quoting, and who knows what else. I don’t want to make any promises, but it will probably be life-altering.
