As you no doubt heard after that guy who never shut up about "The Simarillion" jumped off of his roof, Guillermo Del Toro has bailed on the Hobbit, largely thanks to MGM continuing its agonizingly slow descent into obscurity and failure, a once vital and beloved film studio, an icon of American culture that changed the course of film history and America, torn apart by hubris and callous business practices, choking on a bolus of debt, soon to be stripped for parts like a bombed-out wreck in a really bad neighborhood.
