Hot off the heels of Lifetime's train wreck Liz Taylor biopic, the BBC is producing "Taylor and Burton," starring Helena Bonham Carter and "The Wire's" Dominic West.

If you limit yourself to American television, you're missing out on some of the best and bleakest drama available.

Way back in November, we all got excited by the news that Dominic West (McNulty from "The Wire") would star in "The Hour," a BBC Two drama that takes place in London in the 1950s -- and one that drew immediate comparisons to "Mad Men.

You'll have to excuse any typos in this post, because I'm writing this while breathing into a paper bag: The BBC is going to make a "Mad Men"-like '50s drama called "The Hour" that will star Dominic West, better known to American audiences as Jimmy McNulty from "The Wire.

This YouTube video from August shows Dominic West -- the British actor best known as McNulty from "The Wire" -- telling journalist Marina Hyde that David Simon's upcoming HBO project "Treme" (a show that I've been salivating over for months now) will be better than the best TV show ever made.
