Report: Hackers Have Taken Down The New York Times’ Website

If you’ve attempted to visit the New York Times website in the past hour or so, you’ve likely been greeted by a screen that looks something like this…

The reason for this? A hacker attack, according to Fox Business.

The corporate and media sites of The New York Times (NYT) were experiencing a cyber attack on Wednesday afternoon, according to a source close to the matter.

The source, who asked not to be named due to the sensitive nature of the issue, said the newspaper has been huddling with outside security professionals to assess the threat.

On its official Twitter account, the New York Times said it was “experiencing technical difficulties.”
“We expect to be back up shortly,” it tweeted.

Surely Fox News has nothing to do with this.

UPDATE: The Times website is back up and the company is now saying that the problem was internal, contradicting the Fox report that it was hacked.
