“This PTA meeting is OVER!”
In a stunning new revelation, Toni Collette’s character on “The United States of Tara” (aka “U.S.Tay.”) will develop yet another split personality… and maybe more after that! Wow, this series is in no way jumping shark whatsoever.
The character who suffers multiple personality disorder will not only have three but four different personas which reportedly will be teased in the end of next episode. Writer Diablo Cody said, “There may be other alters.”
Outside her true self, Tara… has possessed three personalities which are suburb housewife named Alice, beer-gulping male named Buck and a wild and pot-smoking teenager named T. The additional personality is not yet revealed though whether it will be a female or male.
Frankly I don’t think it makes sense for her to have male personalities. It’s just not realistic. You put a male personality in a woman’s body, you better believe the only thing that happens during that episode is a really long shower that results in the cleanest pair of breasts on the planet.

Maybe one of the personalities can be a woman who doesn’t have fucking schizophrenia? Or is that too meta?
one of the personalities should be that of an actress starring in a tv show that I would like to watch.
It’s certainly possible for people to have minds that do not match their bodies; look at all the people who are transgendered in the world.
The show is stupid – real multiples aren’t freaked-out crazy schizo’s, they’re shy or like anyone. But they really have male personalities. The dr advising this show knows this but he should make them tone it down if they want to be like a real multiple. They are just like you & me. You would never know if your bff or boss was multiple!
I’ll attempt to be polite about this because I’m trying to educate and I know being callous won’t get my point across. There are two points that I believe need clarification.
1. I am female bodied and in a system of 8. We have 4 men. One of them actually prefers men to women. So to say that it’s impossible for a female with multiple personallities to have male personallities, you’re sorely mistaken. Several people in communities for people with multiple personallities have system members of mixed gender. It is not a requirement to match your body.
2. Acquisition of system member is sporadic and can be triggered by a number of things. We gained 4 system members (we grew by half) between June and November of 2007. It is stressful and takes the system time to settle. Considering the storyline, it is likely that Tara’s system would expand because she is revisiting past memories and that is stressful.
Others have already mentioned that many multiples today ARE fully functioning with transgendered members (ie: male in a female body or vice versa) We are a male bodied system of one mana nd one woman, please feel free to visit our site for more information ([healthymultiplicity.com]). You might also want to take a look at this link ([www.karitas.net]) before making uninformed statements about the nature of multiplicity, a phenomenon which IS really experienced by thousands of people around the world today.
Lots of people have made good points here, so I’ll just share that I am a transgendered woman in a multiple system and while I understand this was probably mainly meant humorously, it is actually a pretty serious issue. Shows like “Tara” make light of it, which can be good to some extent, but when it leads to people making over-generalizations and thoughtless remarks about a serious topic, it’s usually not really a good thing.
It is a shame that the people who make the show don’t really do much research either. If they did, maybe they’d realize they are really just perpetuating a caricature of an experience that is a bit offensive to people who actually function, living their lives as more than one person!
Anyway, just my two cents.

Actually, there are plenty of real live human men, both singlet and multiple, who end up living in bodies with breasts, and do not spend all their time obsessing over them. Clearly you wrote this tongue-in-cheek, but please be aware that this sort of stereotype is offensive.
As for it not being “realistic:” there are loads of multiples who have members whose gender does not match that assigned to their bodies. Doing about 10 seconds of research on the subject should confirm this.
There are a lot more multiples around than most people would guess, and the popular stereotypes about multiplicity are mostly a load of crap.
Yes, adolescent boys spend a lot of time in the shower and come out with their hair still dirty. That’s a normal phase of boy-development, usually fairly brief; adult men don’t keep on obsessing over their own bits like that.
There’s also a squick-factor there, y’know; a male in a female body is more likely to be turned off by the fact that there are breasts on him, and other things are conspicuously absent.
Wow. Just wow. I have several male alters and not ONE of them would disrespect me or my body so much as to do what you’ve suggested. And as far as the “Oh no! Getting ANOTHER alter!?”: three is a relatively small system. Alters come and go. It’s part of life as a multiple.
