Cartoon Network will air the original, British version of “The Office” on [adult swim] — really? I have to use the brackets? — according to [adult swim] founder Mike Lazzo. From /film:
That’s a done deal. It’s happening. …The only thing I don’t know is when to put it on.” The rather awesome acquisition follows in line with [as]’s recent importation of British comedy series The Mighty Boosh and the utterly craze Look Around You.
I’m looking forward to this, as I’ve never actually seen the original with Ricky Gervais. I meant to rent the series on DVD, but then the American version debuted, and I liked it, and I said that I liked it, and a bunch of people sniffed and said that they wouldn’t watch it because they liked the British version so much, and Ricky Gervais was genius in the British version, and it could never be as good as the British version. Are you one of those people? Go ahead and punch yourself in the groin. Really, it’s okay, you deserve it.

I like the BRITISH {adult swim} better anyway.
They have a Scottish version of The Office.
Too bad for [Adult Swim] I already get BBC America so I wouldn’t have to dvr it/stay up ’til 3:30 in the morning to see it. I mean if I actually watched it.
The scenes of the original ones I’ve seen were almost exactly identical to the American version – funny, but it’s hard to genuinely laugh at a joke when you already know the punch line.
The British version of “The Office” was pretty dynamite. The humor is a mix or really dry and silly. Although you may have to put the subtitles on to fully understand their weird “queens english” jibber jabber.
And if you don’t think this is funny, then brotha I don’t wanna know ya.

And if
You can’t even compare the British version and the American one. The British one only made 14 episodes, ever. And they are flawless. The American one has to crank out like 50 a year. Obviously the American one isn’t going to hold up in comparison, but it’s still pretty great in its own right.
Both versions are hilarious. The British version is a little less absurd, but it only ran for 12 episodes, so they didn’t have to be.
Ricky Gervais said he gets pissed when people say “British Version of ‘The Office’” because it’s theirs and not a version of anything, it is original. Like if Pakistan started making “The Simpsons” and now everytime you wanted to talk about “The Simpsons” you have to say “The American version of ‘The Simpsons’”
I am sure you are glad that I shared that with you.
So anyways, do yourself a favor and DONT watch it on tv because it can be a bit difficult to understand and you need to watch it with the captions on, plus you will miss all the swearing if you watch it on tv. Other than that, I found it to be really funny, but you have to just ignore references made to British culture that you might not understand and just move on instead of trying to figure out what they are talking about.
David Brent: If you want the rainbow, you’ve gotta put up with the rain – do you know which philosopher said that? Dolly Parton. And people say she’s just a big pair of tits.
@Zack – The first American episode copied the English version almost verbatim. After that, the American version went it’s own way.
I think the American Office is the third best show I’ve ever seen. After Gervais (and Merchant)’s The Office and Extras…
@ La Schmoove – One of my personal faves: “My proudest moment here wasn’t when I increased profits by 17%, or cut expenditure without losing a single member of staff. No. It was a young Greek guy, first job in the country, hardly spoke a word of English, but he came to me and he went ‘Mr Brent, will you be the Godfather to my child?’ Didn’t happen in the end. We had to let him go, he was rubbish. He was rubbish.”
@ Everyone – Youtube his interview with Chris Martin. Youtube his Comic Relief skits. Youtube his IBM Management sketch!
Look Around You = FREAKING WIN. Serafinowicz (sp?) Simon Pegg, and Edgar Wright are all involved.
Netflix streams the British Office, if you don’t mind watching it on your computer.
People only said that because the first episode of the American version was almost identical to the first episode of the British version, and the British version of that episode was better (if only because it was first). The American version took on its own identity, though. Watch ‘em both. They’re great.
Boobs.
