Fox tried to hail “Sit Down, Shut Up” — the new animated series that debuted on Sunday night — as the heir to “Arrested Development,” and it was totally right in one regard: the ratings sucked.
Debuting at 8:30 p.m., Sit Down (5.2 million viewers, 2.3 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) fell 23% from its Simpsons (6.5 million, 3.0) lead-in, then audiences jumped up 65% for Family Guy (7.4 million, 3.8). American Dad (5.8 million, 3.0) filled out the block. The Sit Down opener also was down 15% from the time period’s average performance (typically King of the Hill).
If you missed it, you’re welcome to watch the pilot on Hulu, but… well, let’s put it this way: I wanted to like it. I tried to like it. I did not like it. There are some brief moments of wit and humor, but mostly it was easy, obvious gags and WAY too much of Kenan Thompson’s voice. Kenan Thompson killed this faster than a Saturday Night Live skit. And that’s no easy task.

Well, if anything this at least proves that 7.4 million Americans are idiots.
Unfunny.
Obviously the fastest way to get something canceled is to compare it to “Arrested Development”.
“Welcome to American Idol” it’s just like Arrested Development!”
** canceled after first commercial break**
I don’t understand how 5.2 million is a failure. The Simpsons managed to get only 1.3 million more viewers and Family Guy got 2.2 million more viewers. I’m not even saying I like SDSU. I just think the guys who run FOX must be idiots (OMG! No Way!) if they think that’s a failure. I wonder how “bad” Futurama, Firefly, Arrested Development, Greg the Bunny, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Ect. (Fox really sucks) actually did.
Also, I can’t hate Kenan Thompson because Kenan and Kel is awesome!
Yep. Pretty shitty.
I’m willing to devote another 22 minutes to it.
Put it this way: I brought home some paperwork over the weekend and the only time I spent actually looking at it was during SDSU.
San Diego State sucks too.
What the hell? What is this?
I too wanted to like it, but it just wasn’t funny. at least Will Arnett was able to capture a bit of GOB’s arrogant cluelessness. I will say I’m happy that there were no cartoon characters named “Hofftard” when I was a youth.
America has spoken, keep Arnett and Bateman the hell away from each other. Also, renew King of the Hill you douchebags.
Yeah, really wanted this to work and it just didn’t.
Oh well. We’ll always have Bob Loblaw.
Fist, 5.2 is awful because it was the show’s premiere. Ratings won’t stay at that level, especially given how much this show sucked.
It sucked out loud. But lots of pilots are tame, dude. Especially animated ones. Gotta give it six episodes, then decide.
I watched a rerun of CSI:Miami instead.
YYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
/seriously, I did
