The not-quite-popular Comedy Central mockumentary “Reno 911!” was canceled yesterday afternoon, sending shockwaves through the dozens of people that would maybe watch an episode if they were flipping channels and noticed that it was on. Series creator/star Thomas Lennon (Lt. Jim Dangle) broke the news over his Twitter feed:
Reno 911! was cancelled at 1:30 pm today. Won’t be wearing the shorts again.
I honestly don’t want to sound so dismissive of “Reno 911!” — there were times when the show was brilliant and hilarious. It had a lot of funny moments, a lot of great guest appearances, and the Reno 911!: Miami movie was absolutely delightful (another feather in the cap for Paul Rudd). Unfortunately, the number of episodes that fell to Earth with an unfunny thud kept me from ever becoming a regular viewer. I’m sorry, “Reno.” Please don’t take it personally. I respect you, but this was probably for the best. Like that time I shot my dog. When I was seven.

Fist!
And good riddance. The show always seemed like a half hour long, unfunny, gay/racist joke which kept trying to convince you that it actually was funny.
I’ll go on the record as being a fan of the show. There was enough funny to keep me dvring it.
I’ve never been a fan of Kerri Kenney-Silver, and I pretty much never wanted to watch a scene with her in it, even if Tom Lennon was been condescendingly funny towards her. But the other State folks, plus Cedric Yarbrough, were really good. Wendi McLendon-Covey (gone from the show this past season) was the only woman who played a role that could make me laugh and I think the lack of funny from the other women is what kept from being really great.
This is a shame. The show reworked its cast this season (not that Ufford would notice, judging by the old photo) and was pretty fucking funny on a consistent basis.
I liked the show and I thought adding alum from The State this season was a good move.
As far as canceled Comedy Central show go “Dog Bites Man” with Zach Galafinakis was awesome.
The one skit they had this season with the KKK wine maker may have been the funniest 8 minutes on television this year.

Paul Rudd did steal that movie.
Matt, Michael Vick may be interested in your “skills” up in Philly. If you catch my drift…(wink wink)….
This sucks. Terry the gay rollerskater always made me chuckle.
I second Enrico. Terry was always guaranteed to be a funny few minutes.
My name’s not Mary, or Sherry, it’s: TEEERRRRRRRYYYYYYYYY
@Otto — I noticed it:

But adding new cast members this season wasn’t enough for me to become a regular watcher after being disappointed so many times.
