Today in news about news, Charlie Gibson announced that he will step down as the anchor of ABC’s “World News.” Diane Sawyer, host of “Good Morning America,” will replace him in January.
“It has not been an easy decision to make,” Gibson wrote in an e-mail to ‘World News’ staff. “This has been my professional home for almost 35 years.”
Sawyer, 63, will begin in January and becomes the second female evening news anchor on television, along with Katie Couric, who took the historic helm of the ‘CBS Evening News’ in September 2006. [Fancast]
Another woman to anchor the news. This certainly is historic. Historically boring, that is. This day will always be remembered for the landmark moment where I was too apathetic to even make a dismissive wanking motion.

Couric sucks anyway. I enjoy watching the CBS news when she’s off for the night, which happens at least twice per week. The replacements are way better.

I’m not sure Charlie Gibson’s chair will be big enough for Diane Sawyer’s ego. And that’s saying something.
