When I first heard the uproar about David Spade being in a new DirecTV ad with his old deceased pal Chris Farley, I shrugged it off. After all, DirecTV had already done a Poltergeist commercial, and that girl died at age 12. Besides, I don’t particularly care about the sensitive things that most people get worked up about. Every good thing gets crapped on, you know?
But then I actually saw the commercial, and I have to hand it to Spade and DirecTV: it really is tacky and tasteless. I understand that Spade’s made a career out of being sarcastic (for which I raise my glass to him), but… I wouldn’t sarcastically dismiss the work of my dead friends. I’m just kind of not a dick like that. But hey, whatever pays the Playboy models you’re nailing, right?

Ironically, David Spade’s career makes Farley seem positively life-like in comparison.
Why use that particular movie, though? Surely David Spade has had several other memorable… well, I mean he played…
Tacky & tasteless? That’s a bit harsh. I didn’t feel like it disrespected Farley in no form or fashion. No more than a steady diet of ho-ho’s and 8balls anyway…
I always thought that Spade summed up his career nicely when he said that he and Farley made one funny movie called “Tommy Boy,” and then another movie named “Black Sheep.”
Oh noes! David Spade made Chris Farley look fat and stupid . . . Oh, wait . . .
I thought it was bad when they screwed up “Back To The Future” for me, but this just takes it to a new level of hatred. Thanks for raping my childhood memories, Direct TV. Eat a dick.
Oooh, Spade’s “dignity”, so sorry … K, thanks, buh-bye.
Man, imagine if they used something from Beverly Hills Ninja or Almost Heroes.
I like this commercial the first time I saw it…when it was called gay porn.
I didn’t think it was that bad. In fact I see the “never gets old” comment at the end as more of a serious comment that its a classic comedy moment of Farley that will, in fact, never get old.
Try to look at it the other way around. If Farley were still alive and David Spade were dead, this commercial would probably still happen… in a much better world.
Was: “Really, David Spade?”
Is: “Die in a Fire, David Spade!”
/Fixed
I guess Sony Pictures wasn’t willing to give DirecTV the rights to “Joe Dirt.”
i too felt a little odd about this. :/
Spade didn’t even go to Farley’s funeral. He’s a piece of shit. I hope he gets testicular cancer.
Me: “Was David Spade making fun of Chris Farley in that commercial?”
Girlfriend: “Can you please just go get some more toilet paper?”
me: “Just shit then shower. You had to shower anyways.”
Girlfriend: “What’s ‘shit then shower’? Does it mean what I think it means? Have you done that in our bathroom?”
me: “…”
