Style has greenlit eight episodes of a reality show called “Jerseylicious” about a beauty salon in central New Jersey. And good news! It’s an hour-long show.
Premiering in spring 2010, “Jerseylicious” will focus on the intertwined professional and romantic lives of six stylists at the salon, as well as the gossip that arises in their everyday banter with customers. The intrinsically Garden State makeovers and hairstyles will also be featured. [Variety]
Since this show will do nothing but reinforce the stereotypical perception of New Jersey, I thought it was a good time to dig up the video above: highlights from a 1994 documentary called Wildwood, N.J. It goes without saying that I hope every girl in this video has grown up to be one of the stylists on “Jerseylicious.” Because I would watch the show if the women were talking about their vaginas as “checks to cash” and looking forlorn when they talk about how their boyfriends won’t let them get into fistfights. I honestly don’t understand why Jersey gets a bad name.
(And just for good measure, here’s the sequel to the above video.)
