As usual with Just the Badass Parts, you needn’t follow the show to appreciate the totally metal beatdowns an episode provides. So here’s the badassery from last night’s “Sons of Anarchy” (Episode 212, “The Culling”), minus all those annoying things like back story and characters’ names.
- Henry Rollins committing an indiscriminate, racially fueled triple homicide.
- A father sniffing his daughter’s fingers to learn that she just had sex.
- A Mexican standoff that occurs, ironically, because one of the characters hates Mexicans.
- Girlfight! A female doctor beats the crap out of her administrator boss. After a choke slam, the administrator complains, “That’s assault!” followed by the doc punching her in the face and saying, “No, this is assault.” Crocodile Dundee approves.
- Symbolic dead rats.
- Old-fashioned gang rumble featuring OH MY GOD THAT GUY JUST BIT OFF AN EAR.
- A man escaping certain death by telling police he was in possession of a brick of heroin.
All in all, following two consecutive gut-wrenching episodes that were driven by character and the motorcycle club’s internal struggles, this episode was a cathartic plot-driven reward for viewers who have waited months for comeuppance. The season finale is next week; if you’ve missed out on this season, I recommend you use the Google machine to correct that.

Gah, I have four or five of these stacked up on the DVR, I need to lock myself in a room with a bottle of whiskey this weekend and get caught up for the finale.
Watching the doctor take a level in badass was so fucking satisfying I needed to have a cigarette after.
I rewound the doctor part like 4 times. Even the scene in the car with the religious statue was great. It just pissed me off that they didn’t kill anybody. It was kind of like a scooby doo ending.
Great episode. Next week Henry Rollins and his former boss get put in a jail cell together. He may have been better off with SAMCRO. That will be interesting.
Two of my favorite parts were the brief cameo by Kenny Johnson (he played Lem on “The Shield”) and Chibs telling Stahl that she hits like a girl.
I think the hospital admin beatdown was awesome, but it was a bit too overexplained, with Peg Bundy telling Tara not to take shit, then her going and beating up the admin and saying, “oh, I just found out I don’t have to take shit.” But the “No, THIS is assault” line was right up there with Peggy’s “I’m so high right now” in Mad Men.
The scene in the surplus store where they open up the case and find the dead rats caused me to jump out of my recliner, yell “oh shit, you’re fucking dead dude” at the top of my lungs. One minute later, my landlord came over to investigate. Good times
