The finest animal-related Web discovery today is “Skippy the Bush Kangaroo,” a “Lassie”-esque Australian TV series for kids that originally aired from 1966 to 1968 before coming to syndication in the U.S. and Canada. And then Skippy took over the friggin’ world:
The series was dubbed into Spanish in Mexico, where it is known as “Skippy el canguro”, and distributed to most Spanish-speaking countries, including Cuba and Spain, countries where the show became very popular. The series also crossed the iron curtain and was aired in Czechoslovakia in the 80′s and is currently still being broadcast in Iran. However, the show was forbidden to be shown in Sweden where psychologists believed that the show would mislead children into believing animals could do things that they couldn’t. [Wikipedia]
Why you gotta hate, Sweden? Don’t you want your children to grow up in a world where kangaroos play the drums?

Have you seen her? Have you heard the way she plays? There are no words to describe the way I feel.
I will not be impressed by Skippy unless he can drum with one arm.
It’s the Australian version of “The Littlest Hobo”!
My life was an empty mess until I saw the 27-second mark. Thank you, kangaroo facepalm. You saved my life.
On a side note: ever been to The Great Adventure / African Safari? Wow, those Kangaroos are some serious poon hounds.
Skippy the Bush Kangaroo is vastly superior to Itchy the Bush Crab. Trust me.
You had me at “This kangaroo plays the drums.”
Maybe tomorrow…I’ll wanna settle down…until tomorrow…I’ll just keep hopping on…(doo doo da da doo)
(Sit Ubu sit. Good dog.)
As an Australian, I’ve known about SKippy my whole life and have never felt this much like an outsider. Weird.
