Former “Malcolm in the Middle” star Frankie Muniz, now 24, was last in the news when he put his Hollywood career on hold to pursue a career driving race cars. Now his new thing is playing the drums for a Phoenix band (NOT tobe confused with the band Phoenix) called You Hang Up. No, YOU hang up! Get it? It’s from a conversation between people you want to punch.
“Frankie moved to Arizona in 2008 to take a break from acting and pursue a professional career in racing, but has now become a permanent fixture of You Hang Up. Between Frankie’s incredible drumming skills and his passion for music in general, he adds a flavor to You Hang Up that could not blend better with the group.” [MySpace]
Honestly, I don’t want to hate on the guy for pursuing something he likes, even if I hate the band’s music. I mean, he’s a former child star; we should just be happy that he isn’t killing children during meth binges or — worse — becoming a DJ. But then, well… he was old enough to know better when this happened:
Muniz told Entertainment Weekly in 2004 that he learned to pound the skins from Zac Hanson (as in ‘MMMBop’ Hanson). “My best friends are Hanson,” he said at the time. “When they come out for their full electric tour after their CD gets released, they’re going to have two drum kits up there, and I’m gonna jam with them.”
Yikes. Again: he said that in 2004. “MMMBop” was released in 1997. So, uh, maybe Danny Masterson could show him how to DJ?

Awwww, he thinks it’s a “break from acting.” How cute.
Up next: Celebrity Rehab!
He’s only hanging out with Hanson because he hopes to get laid by the chick in the band.
This still isn’t as bad as Freddie Prinze Jr.’s “retirement” to become a writer for the WWE.
I learned to pound the skins by watching Cinemax.
He should form a supergroup with Adrian Grenier and Joaquin Phoenix and then they could die in a plane crash! It would be great!
as lucille bluth so eloquently put it:
“I’d rather be dead in California than alive in Arizona”
You know people need to just be supportive. My bf has a studio right next to you hang up and Frankie is surprisingly good at what he does. I was skeptical at first but the guys are chill and the music grows on you… Lol. Rock on Franki! Luv Nikki the pink haired chick next door lol
@ Nikki – tits or STFU
So I guess the no “LOL” rule here is more of an unwritten thing? I do not luv that.
Good day! This post could not be written any better! Reading this post reminds me of my good old room mate! He always kept talking about this. I will forward this write-up to him. Pretty sure he will have a good read. Thank you for sharing!
Hanson are very talented musicians. There is more to Hanson than you think..They were discovered by Mercury Records originally. Unfortunately, in 2000, a merger happened and Mercury Records dissolved. It got absorbed by hiphop label Island def Jam. 300 bands were dropped as a result…But Island decided to keep Hanson on their roster because, it’s Hanson. But Island def Jam did not know what to do with Hanson’s talent. They did not nurture and hone their talent and potential like Mercury had. They just did not get Hanson’s talent and music.
Hanson left Island def Jam by choice in 2003 in favor of going independent and having more artistic control.Island seemed to focus more on ROI and making “hits”. It was a struggle between business decisions and creativity in the process of making an album. Hanson decided to quit Island. They got an offer by Arista Records but they declined. They followed their gut that they will just be independent and deliver the music they want directly to fans and anyone who will listen. They were only 18, 20 and 23 when they decided to form their own record company, 3CG Records. Their first independent album released under their own label, UNDERNEATH, became No. 1 on the Billboard Independent Albums Chart. If all they cared about was staying popular, getting money, they would have stayed with the major label system. Being independent, they use money out of their own pocket – they do not have the financial backing and resources of a billion-dollar major record label that could certainly have the means and money to constantly promote their artists on a large-scale worldwide level. Hanson based their decisions on their love and belief in music.
Hanson are true blue musicians. They are hardworking and passionate. Props to them! By the way, please watch Hanson’s film documentary “Strong Enough to Break” which tells the whole story. Here’s a link: [www.youtube.com]

Yes, heaven forbid the creative geniuses that dreamt up MMMBop are not allowed to flourish.
Hanson has really great music throughout the years…Do check out their song & album entitled “Underneath” and also songs “Been There Before”`and “Waiting for This.”
