I’m terrified of developing positive expectations when it comes to new TV shows — especially TV shows borne of Internet projects — but I’d be lying if I said that HBO’s “Funny or Die Presents” didn’t look genuinely entertaining. Judging by the preview below, it seems to have a nice balance of big-time stars like Will Ferrell and Don Cheadle with respected comedy professionals like, uh, Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis, That Guy from That One Show, Whathisface from Human Giant, and Ed Something, You Know, He Was on The Daily Show before being in The Office and The Hangover?
Taken as a whole, the cast shown in the preview is more impressive than any given week of “Saturday Night Live.” Not like that’s some kind of miraculous accomplishment. “Oohh, check it out! Funny or Die got Tim Meadows for this sketch! It’s automatically better than anything with Kenan Thompson!”

Ed Something, You Know, He Was on The Daily Show before being in The Office and The Hangover?
PETER KING KNOWS HIM AS THE NARD DOG AND HE MAKES THAT SHOW GREAT!!!
Wait a second. You’re telling me that giving cameras, production equipment, and money to people who are funny and talented, and staying out out of their way will make a better product? You’ve obviously never worked in television.
/every television executive ever
Sigh- guess I’ll be the one backing down on my mexican standoff with Comcast. Damn you HBO! It will all be worth it if I get to the see the Weng Weng Rap in HD glory.
More Bobby Bottleservice or GTF… well you don’t have to leave, but it’d be nice if FoD had more Nick Kroll.
DG, I have some notes for that comment you made.
@DG- seriously, the C story arc in your comment is losing momentum. Can you work a sassy Latina neighbor into it?
Well that was irreverently witty.
Typo: It’s Keenan Ivory Thompson.
Jerry Zucker thinks this show needs to be 40 minutes long instead of 30, and should only feature Jay Leno. I mean, who actually wants to wash a show with the funniest people in the world, shown on a network that allows swearing and nudity?
The only thing worse would be if cash prizes are randomly awarded to the viewers.
They need the guys who did Powerthirst.
Read the Chris Farley biography and now I can’t look at Spade without wanting to punch the screen
I don’t see the point in comparing SNL to something that isn’t live or put together in just one week.
I don’t see the point in comparing SNL to something that’s actually funny.
Would they get this botched show off the air already, how much more could the general pulic take of the abomination!
Get this show off the air already, its an abomination,
blow up the island and fire all the producers involved with this
loser of a show, and to delay, the “the suspense.” Please this is sclock at best. JR
This show was… not funny. Sorry.
