Big news, people. NBC Universal has reached an agreement with Working Title to make TV shows from the British film company’s roster. In other words, any movie Hugh Grant’s ever been in might end up a TV show on NBC, and the franchise that’s getting the most buzz right now is Bridget Jones, the plucky chubby klutz who represents today’s urban professional everywoman. Start petting your cats in excitement!

One of the aims is to make TV adaptations of Working Title’s library of more than 90 theatrical releases, which includes the Bridget Jones movies, Billy Elliot and Nanny McPhee, along with Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill and Shaun of the Dead…

[NBU International president Pete] Smith cautioned that there were still a number of hurdles to overcome, because the rights to the properties under debate were not yet cleared, “but that is our ambition”. [Guardian]

Yes, at last! I’ve waited YEARS for a show that makes me want to punch myself in the balls more than “Grey’s Anatomy.”
