Ordinarily, I wouldn’t bother writing about Jennifer Lopez’s stint as the host and musical guest for “Saturday Night Live” just because I wasted 70 minutes of my life watching it. But this episode was so pathetic and lazily unfunny that I feel we should gather together as a community — as people do for a funeral, or after a tragic event.
I understand why “SNL” reels in the Taylor Swifts and Taylor Lautners to host, but… Jennifer Lopez? It’s a puzzling decision, one that I have to think is fueled by complaints that “SNL” skews too white and male. But then taking a minority and making her the star of sketches about Telemundo and Univision isn’t exactly my idea of racial integration in comedy — and I’m using a very broad definition for “comedy” here. (I’ll make no mention of her musical performance, except to note that it’s easy to see why Sony dumped her instead of releasing her next album.)
Anyway, there was one skit at the end of the show that made me laugh, but I didn’t see it on Hulu, so it’s possible that I fell asleep and dreamed it. So instead of that one funny sketch that may or may not have happened, below is video of the “flags of the world” digital short, which was okay. Not exactly funny, but fairly original. I’ve also included a picture of an adorable baby bunny rabbit. I’m not exactly sure why, but I figure it can only help.

The Smash Mouth skit made me chuckle but other than that, the show was a big bowl of hot diarrhea.
Here’s hoping that the Zach Galifianakis/ Vampire Weekend episode will wash of the stink. The hipsters are all happy about it, but are ironically acting like they don’t care.
Sympathy for J-Lo? You’re getting soft in your
old agechronic alcoholism. This episode was better than most other episodes I have seen this year. The “We Are the World” sketch made me chuckle. It was the most poignant commentary on the show. The Patterson bit was the worst ever. That impression is usually funny.
/still not a compliment
Oh right! Smashmouth! That’s the skit that made me laugh.
I still have no idea why you still watch this show, Uff. Seth Meyers is God fucking awful.
only clicked for the bunny. that’s some good bunny right there.
The Smash Mouth skit had a weak ending, but it was funny anyway. And, good lord, it was still miles better than anything else this week (excluding the Digital Short).
I hope they’re just saving all the good material for Galafianakis.
And I want that bunny.
Am I way off in thinking the Paterson bit was hilarious? I was dying laughing. Perhaps if you’re not inundated with the New York Post’s coverage of Paterson on a daily basis like I am, you wouldn’t think it is funny.
Go to the Hulu main page for SNL ([www.hulu.com]) and mouse over the full J-Lo episode. Whoever is tagging the videos wasn’t a fan of last night’s episode.
I would rather watch Jay Leno and the Marriage Ref than this shit.
I changed the channel once she started singing. SNL is mostly hot shit on a platter these days.
this is why i stopped listening to attempts at comedy on terrestrial radio shows: they’re crowded with reject hacks who make clumsy, racist jokes. anyone else miss MADTV?
Actually I take that back, nothing is as bad as Leno.
I actually didn’t mind this episode. One of the better shows this season… not that It’s saying much.
anyone else miss MADTV?
Absolutely not.
I really can’t believe that people still bother to watch Saturday Night Live. There are about 6 billion shows on tv that are funnier than SNL.
Am I the only one who followed the jump just to see the picture of the bunny?
Bunny pic for the win!
Holy Christ that was a bad idea to have her host, much less perform. I’m a big SNL defender but that might have been the worst show ever. I noticed they reran that lame closet buddy skit at the end, filler?
The highlight of the show was seeing her do a spin in that nice little leather dress. J-lo still has a bum, but the show has taken a nose dive over the years!
