Precious star and cheerful fatty Gabourey Sidibe hosted “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, and it was okay, I guess. People always seem to love either bashing SNL as terrible or dismissing it as irrelevant, but I accept it for what it is: a decent way to pass the time. I’ve settled into a nice groove of watching it on Sunday and fast-forwarding through the commercials, musical performances, and particularly unfunny skits.

Anyway, Gabby’s not the best live entertainer, but what she lacks in live performance skills she more than makes up for with ebullience and arm fat. Highlights of the episode included the public employee of the year sketch, Bill Hader breaking character during Weekend Update, and Kenan Thompson as Steve Harvey hosting “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” (video below). I feel so ashamed every time I find Kenan Thompson funny. I need a comedy priest to hear my confession. “You are forgiven, my son. Watch two episodes of ‘Archer’ and tell thirty fat jokes.”

I hope she puts “cheerful fatty” on her resume, cause I would hire her for that.
I would wager a hundred bucks that the steve harvey sketch was born from the difficulty in pronouncing the name of that volcano.
“It’s hard to pronounce. What could be other examples of that?”
You know, next week, when she will be applying at various fast food establishments, and saying things like “You gonna eat that?” and “I almost won an Oscar”
She was out of breath as she delivered her lines. The only people allowed to do that should be those on coke binges.
During SNL, I pass the time clipping my toenails and GOOD GOD AN ORCA IN A CARDIGAN IS ATTACKING STEVE HARVEY!
Oh, crap, Menace, the Orca didnt catch his ponytail, did it?
Word of the day: ebullience. Yep, I had to look that one up.
They should have called it Fat-urday Night Live with her hosting.

I thought the episode was pretty ok. My comedy geek boner was at full attention for John Mulaney’s bit on Weekend Update.
It was a so-so episode, but I looooove Hader’s Update character. More of that guy, please.
Honestly, the worst part of the episode was MGMT’s hipster wardrobe.
Steve Harvey impressions are always hilarious. I would laugh if Leno did one.
hmm embullience …
Steve Harvey: A. Dem Blue Lands B. Fruit Roll Ups C. Mustache Rides D. Amber Lamps
THE most unbearable show in SNL history and that’s saying a lot. It makes me respect those god awful JLo hostings.
The public employee sketch was terrible. As was most of the episode. The worst part was I guess they figured “black host” = more Kenan Thompson.
Matt, if you fast forward through the commercials, musical performances, and particularly unfunny skits, you must be able to watch the show in about 6 minutes flat then, right?
Before I read that it was Kenan as Steve Harvey, I thought it was Gordon from Sesame Street.
You mention this week’s episode but nothing about Ryan Phillipe’s hosting? That was probably the most consistently funny episode this season. Hell, Father Swimcoach Scoutmaster during Weekend Update alone made that episode. Throw in a handful of legitimately funny skits and you’ve got a winner right there.
Damn, that girl wider than all outside.
Brian, delivering her lines? Bitch gets out of breath breathing.
I thought it was awful. I’ll occasionally DVR SNL and we’ll watch it on Sundays too….but aside from the Steve Harvey skit, and Jon Mullaney (AWESOME comedian) guesting on the Weekend Update, I didn’t find anything else very good about it.
Are we sure that wasn’t a clip from a ten-year-old episode of MadTV?
