About three weeks ago, Ice Cube went on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” to promote TBS’s “Are We There Yet?,” a sad reminder that his closest counterpart in Hollywood is probably Tyler Perry. God, that’s depressing. Speaking as a white man who enjoys angry rap songs about inner-city violence, that chips away at my very soul.
HOWEVER. Before the show taped, Cube performed “Straight Outta Compton” with the Roots (video above, direct link
caught on a digital video recorder. NBC has mixed the video with better audio and will show the performance when the episode re-airs next week. Check it:
“Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” is upping the ante by bringing a rocking, never-before-seen-on-TV performance to a previously aired episode. On Wednesday, July 7th, Show #0257 will re-air with brand new footage of lead guest Ice Cube hitting the stage with “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” house band The Roots.
“This is the perfect example of how much fun our show is, even when the cameras aren’t rolling.” said Late Night host Jimmy Fallon. “Ice Cube and The Roots put on an awesome show for our studio audience that night and I’m so excited we now get the chance to show it to everyone else.”
Watch Ice Cube in that video. It’s awesome; there’s nothing remotely ironic about it. He’s even dressed like he used to dress in N.W.A. — and that makes it even sadder that he’s doing pratfalls and getting hit in the nuts in children’s comedies. Oh, Cube… I wish you still used your AK.

I need a 40 oz bottle of St. Ides after watching that.
Needs more tuba.
But, seriously, that’s bad ass.

Franklin: that’s why I included a direct link. Read the post, numbnuts.
I just listened to that song and I really want to kill whitey right now.
They dont make rap like that anymore.
Somewhere out there is a 16 year old kid who just watched this video and is thinking one thing:
“Needs more Auto-tune”.
Ice Cube gave me the best advice that I’ve ever received:
“Bow Down to a ni*** that’s greater than you.”
Always have and always will, Cube.
I cant stop listening to this.
The Roots should just cover every song ever. They could make Reggae sensation “Snow” even better than he already is.
ODB is rolling over in his Cadillac coffin right now.
I’ve always considered Jimmy Fallon an excellent ambassador to the gangsta rap community
The direct link does the same thing for me, video not found.
Outstanding.
On a vaguely related note — check out Jaydiohead.

Oh…and that was awesomely bad ass.
As a middle-aged white man I find that video deeply gratifying.
Afterwards, he looked outside and saw the lights of the Goodyear blimp, and it read, “Ice Cube’s A Pimp.”
Then it said, “Are We There Yet? Wednesdays on TBS. Very Funny.”
it never ceases to amaze me that the Roots became Jimmy Fallon’s house band… but if they’re gonna do shit like this, I suppose they’re forgiven
Squabbler, thanks for the link. Now I know how to kill time today before the boss cuts us loose.
I feel like Michael Bolton in “Office Space.”
Man, i wish i had a tuba.
Great, just when I thought the white kids from the suburbs acting all gangsta was retro.
