This is the first promo for A&E’s “Teach: Tony Danza,” which premieres October 1st. After
After more than 30 years in entertainment as an actor, talk show host, Broadway star, cookbook author, pro boxer and song and dance man, Tony Danza faces his toughest audience to date – high school students. Long before the launch of Danza’s showbiz career, he hoped to be a teacher and even earned a degree in history to pursue that dream.
I don’t want to crap in this punch bowl, but I’m not exactly bowled over by the way the trailer portrays Danza as some kind of hero for leaving showbiz to become a teacher. I’d be more impressed with Danza becoming a teacher if it wasn’t for a reality show, and if I were going to watch a reality show about teaching, I’d prefer to see one about actual teachers.
But hey, congratulations on teaching for a single year, Tony Danza. Do it for another 20 or 30 years and you’ll be as admirable as a real teacher.

So you’re saying that you would actually watch a show about teachers? What about midget teachers? Someone get me the president of TLC!
In all fairness, I don’t think most of today’s real educators have the dramatic range that Tony Danza does to dress like Edward James Olmos and say, “Go to woodshop and make yourself a shoeshine box. You’re gonna need it.”
“he hoped to be a teacher and even earned a degree in history to pursue that dream.”
earned? Dude, I have a history degree and I spent every single minute of college baked out of my trees. Getting an Arts degree is far easier than not punching out that woman who played Mona everyday.
once you put cameras into that situation “reality” ceases to exist..give it a rest with the students kissing his ass to the camera..know why you’ve never had a teacher like danza? because teachers actually teach the curriculum, not give inspirational pep talks all day…and tony, try teaching the kids more vowels than “A,O, O,A”
I am watching your interview on Oprah and I know exactly how you feel. We think that just because we have good intentions and are passionate about what we do, the kids are gonna love us. Of course as you know now its not the case. They dont learn from our intentions or passion. They learn from strategies and methods, great planning and quick thinking. Yes I cried a lot too. A1fter 14 years of being a housewife and mother of three, I decided to teach english at my daughter’s school. They decided that I would teach highschool students. Most of my classes were respectful and went along but I had one class that was my worst challenge. I gave up at least two times but I was convinced to stay and continue. I am living my life day by day trying to make a difference. Because the cirriculum had been changed this year to a more advanced one, the girls absolutely refused it. Appropiately the book is called Challenges and it is truely that. Being a good teacher is not easy but we’ve got to keep on trying.
