I’m a couple days late to this, but here’s the trailer for HBO’s forthcoming miniseries “Mildred Pierce,” a remake of the 1945 movie starring Joan Crawford. HBO’s version will star Kate Winslet in the title role, as well as Evan Rachel Wood and Guy Pierce in the roles of other white people. I’m sure the series will be well done, but if there’s anything I like less than stories about white people in high society, it’s period pieces about white people in high society. And judging by the trailer alone, “Mildred Pierce” is loaded with all the most exciting trappings of a period drama: Opera! Pearls! Pencil mustaches! Women in veils! Cigarette holders! Boredom with opulence! Why, the unspoken tension between white people in this video is almost enough to make The English Patient look like Remains of the Day.

I hope they use old timey slang talk, 23 ski-doo!
Interesting…I’m guessing the story in this will follow a little more closely to the original James M. Cain novel. If I remember correctly, that means more incest and less violence, and less violent incest (but more of it).
“She has something in her that… I thought I had.”
From the looks of this, that would be her father’s penis.
There may still be a few people that find Winslet attractive. Go watch The Reader. You will gouge your eyes out.
I blame Mad Men.
If this is even half as exciting as “The Age of Innocence”, it will be half as exciting as watching grandparents take a nap.
