The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has offered the job of hosting the Oscars to James Franco and Anne Hathaway, and the pair have accepted the gig, according to a report from Deadline Hollywood.
Hathaway did a major dance and musical number with then host Hugh Jackman at the Academy Awards two years ago. Franco is also a multitalented actor who has taken risks in everything from the Spider-Man movie franchise to ABC’s General Hospital. Both are equally adept at comedy and drama. Their selection, if it pans out, is an inspired choice and demonstrates how much current Academy president Tom Sherak wants to improve Oscar ratings.
Hmmm… so they’re trying to hire a pair of young, attractive, charismatic, and talented A-list actors in order to appeal to more people? That just might be crazy enough to work.
UPDATE: Yup, it’s official. Change that headline to “CONFIRMED: Oscar Telecast to Maybe Not Suck.”
