Below is the trailer for “Episodes,” a joint project between Showtime and the BBC in which Matt LeBlanc plays a fictionalized version of himself who gets cast in the American remake of a successful British show. When news of this show broke last year, I wasn’t impressed with the concept, but I have to admit that the trailer makes this look pretty promising. Enough British shows have crossed the pond — with varying levels of success — to make the subject matter relevant, and LeBlanc’s willingness to make light of his past as Joey Tribbiani is laudable.
I’m usually skeptical of inside-baseball/meta stuff like this, but I’m downright not-apathetic about the potential of “Episodes.” It could be LeBlanc’s biggest role since… *searches IMDb for role other than Joey Tribbiani*… My God, Matt LeBlanc hasn’t worked in FOUR YEARS? Wow, LeBlanc really needs this to work out. Otherwise he’ll have to survive off of the millions he makes from “Friends” royalties for the rest of his life.

4 years is nothing. The guy that played Gunther can only find work at glory holes in select BP gas stations.
The two playing the British writers were on Green Wing, which was British Scrubs on crack. They fucking killed. That whole show was monstrously inappropriate. (Both seasons are on Hulu right now.) I’m also a fan of the use of “twat,” so I’m in.
I don’t think nearly enough is made of the fact that Matt LeBlanc, at the height of his fame and ability to choose projects, made a baseball movie about a monkey who played the infield.
The show may be a comedy but that cinematography is a horror show. Oof. And are they sponsored by Maybeline? So much make-up!
@DG – I know. Everyone knows a monkey couldn’t do more than DH.
Dan Uggla plays second base.
Anybody else read bigtalljerk’s comment and hear the “fuckin sequins” guy’s voice?
@DG: We had a monkey playing center field on my high school team and it was a disaster. He’d make some pretty incredible circus catches if he could get to the ball, but his range was just terrible. He just didn’t have the foot speed. A few times he had singles roll past him and turn into triples.
Monkeys suck at baseball, but are great at hockey.

If I can fling poo does that make me a 2 sport athelete? I mean if I could also play football or baseball.
Somewhere a showtime executive is masturbating over his own genius. What a self indulgent piece of shizz.
eventually, this ends with Larry David making a show about Woody Allen making a movie about Charlie Kaufman writing a script.
Yeah, I hope Larry David will collect some royalties from this.
There are times when I wish I had Showtime, and then I look at what else is in their lineup and remember why I don’t have Showtime.
Nice to see Rachel Maddow break into the entertainment side of TV.
Green Wing was amazing. I hope that they bring a bit of the British strangeness of that show. It’s magnificent.
Who is that actress at about the :34 mark? I remember her from something (and I don’t think it’s porn…this time).
