FX debuted a new promo for “Justified” this week, and it manages to be kinda geeky while stoking the flames of my heterosexual man-crush on Timothy Olyphant (video below).
Throughout Season 1 of “Justified,” Raylan Givens (Olyphant) frequently displayed a working knowledge of pop culture and the Westerns that inspired the feel of the show, but this one may take the cake: while sitting in a dark bar with a bad guy, Raylan explains the Han Shot First controversy from Star Wars as a way of telling the bad guy that he’s perfectly willing to shoot him and falsify evidence to justify it (it’s also a subtle callback to the first scene of the series premiere). Why hello, nerd boner. I didn’t see you come in.
The new season starts February 9th. It’s the only thing that can save me from post-Super Bowl depression. Watch it or don’t show your face around here.

Do I need to have seen the first season to follow the plot?

and you can probably get by without seeing the first season, but you should catch up. it was great.
If anyone needs me, I’ll just be watching this promo and breathing into a paper bag for a couple weeks.
If Raylan starts talking about Admiral Akbar, I will lose control of all bodily functions.
@Dennis, just watch Season 1 because it kicked ass. And yeah, it might help you out in following the plot.
I wish I could enjoy this promo, but seeing Raylan’s signature cowboy hat improperly placed on its brim (not its crown) really bothers me. No one who loves a cowboy hat that much would make such a silly mistake.

I’m almost sure they’ll do a huge “Last season on Justified” thing before the premiere. If you really want to tune in and don’t have time to get all caught up on season one first, check Alan Sepinwall’s reviews at Hitfix, or the ones at the AV Club.
I still recommend watching season one at some point because it’s awesome, but that’ll give you enough working knowledge to hop on the moving train.

Justified is my favorite new show since Dexter. I would definitely go gay for Olyphant. I would be to afraid not to.
God this show is awesome!
Easily my favorite new Drama since Madmen. I fucking love this show- and I don’t think there’s been a better adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s work since Out of Sight. Only here, it’s more impressive since much more of Justified is based on original material but it just feels like a Leonard book.
Anyway- as a huge Star Wars nerd I went uber gay for this clip when I saw it a few weeks ago, even going as far to send Matt a ‘tip’ consisting of there’s this promo out there but I can’t find it.. but you should totally go look for it.
Am I rambling? Yes, but I’m just goddamn excited for season 2.
Also I put Greedo shooting first in the top 5 worst things thats ever happened in my lifetime. Screw you for judging me.
