Haughty left-wing bloviator Keith Olbermann is going back to work. I’d say he’s going back to TV, but… not really. He’s going to host a show on Current TV, Al Gore’s struggling cable network.
Olbermann will launch a new nightly primetime news and commentary show later this year on the net, which is currently in 60 million U.S. households…
Current TV co-founders Al Gore and Joel Hyatt indicated that hiring Olbermann is the first step in a plan to build a primetime commentary block on the network, a move that presumably will make it more competitive with the major cable news networks. Current TV can use all the help it can get — ratings are so modest they’re not even ranked in Nielsen’s cable charts. [Inside TV]
Current TV is so far off my radar that until today I thought it was just a website/online media company. And this story bores me so much that 90% of my effort in writing it was looking for something more interesting to write about. Really, the only thing that can salvage this is Ben Affleck’s impression of Olbermann. And when you say something like, “the only thing that can salvage this is Ben Affleck,” those are dire straits indeed.

Pretty impressive that Olbermann landed a job on a channel with even fewer viewers than MSNBC.
I don’t care what anyone says, I’ve always liked Affleck.
I will now invent a sentence that nobody in the history of talking has ever said out loud to anyone: “Yeah I saw that on Current TV.”
I’ve always liked Affleck.
That’s a pretty extreme stance given the engagement to Jennifer Lopez and this string of winners at the box office:
The Sum of All Fears
The Third Wheel
Daredevil
Gigli
Paycheck (an apt title)
Jersey Girl
Surviving Christmas
Man About Town
Those are just the CONSECUTIVE turds; that doesn’t include Pearl Harbor or Reindeer Games or He’s Just Not That Into You.
I like Affleck now, and I liked him in Good Will Hunting, but any sane person is justified in not liking him from 2001-2006.
Armageddon and Dogma has given Affleck a pass for all those bombs.
/Still cries at Armageddon.
I will not begrudge a man for raping film companies for millions of dollars.
I hope Olbermann can get the ratings high enough that everyone will realize Current TV is in last place. What good comes of sucking the best if nobody knows?
Gore bought NewsWorldInternational to creat the absurdity of viewer directed news. NWI provided news casts from around the world created by people who actually knew what they were talking about. You could watch the nightly news from Russia, China, Mexico, and Germany among others. You could even watch the nightly news from Canada — yes, Canada. Now, you get the insight of some dufus hipster with a camera about the evils of non-fair trade shoe polish. For depriving me of a real, unfiltered, international perspective, and this alone, Al Gore can rot in hell.
@LastTexansFan – Nothing gives Affleck a pass for ‘Gigli’. I watched it one evening with a friend so that we could rip it to shreds, yet we sat there all the way through unable to say anything. We just winced and cringed and cried a little.
We’re no longer friends. That film ruined my friendship, damn you Affleck!
Affleck was the bomb in “Phantoms.”
Current has great documentaries with that hot Euro chick though. The one about oxycontin was insane.
Affleck was so bad in “Pearl Harbor” he had me rooting for the Japanese.
Please tell me he is the featured protein on “Kill it Cook it Eat it”
